The Troy Classic on the Square began in 2005 as the dream of a small group of bicycling enthusiast. The Troy Classic on the Square became a reality July 19, 2006. The first year the Classic saw 200 plus racers compete in a one mile criterium along the streets of downtown Troy, Ohio. The race has grown each year to include up to 230 racers.
The Troy Classic is a criterium or a short road race on a circuit – downtown Troy, Ohio – closed to traffic. The distance per lap is approximately one mile. Races are of varying numbers of laps. The mass start, high-speed cornering and sprinting make criterium exciting for participants and spectators alike. The Troy Classic on the Square has a European feel as the racecourse includes a turn around the fountain in the middle of the Town Square.
The Troy Classic is now fast approaching its fourth year and well on the way to being the premier bike race in Ohio. The initial group of enthusiast has grown to a board of directors consisting of eleven directors from all walks of life. The board is a working board as all aspects of the Troy Classic is managed and implemented by the board members. The directors are all volunteers for the Troy Classic, we have no paid staff.
In December 2008, the Troy Classic became incorporated and is in the process of becoming a 501C3. It has always been the vision of the board to be a not-for-profit entity and to give back to the bicycling community.
Part of the Troy Classic mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle. We help to promote biking with the younger set by having a juniors division and a kids race. The kids race has been very popular and a lot of fun to watch.
Our focus and continued mission is to have the very best bike race, not just in Ohio, but in the eastern United States, while promoting a healthy lifestyle and having lots of fun.
